E Ian Siew is a transdisciplinary designer, engineer, and artist. He is currently a PhD student at NUS Division of industrial design supervised by Dr Clement Zheng & A/Prof Yen Ching Chiuan, under the Interactive Materials Lab & NUS CUTE Center respectively. He is currently based in Singapore.
E Ian received his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design from the National University of Singapore. Throughout his undergraduate studies, he has been involved in many cross disciplinary collaborations as a way to push the boundaries of Design. His works and ideas steer towards innovation for healthcare, where he has worked and co-designed directly with clinical professionals from various specialisations. E Ian’s creations have gained recognition from international Design awards such as the James Dyson Award, iF Design & Red Dot Award.
His interest lies in adopting principles from other fields and applying them to other areas for problem solving. His approach to problem solving is through action based design and co-design. His specialties are in pneumatic interfaces, jamming mechanisms, auxetics and metamaterial structures. The integration of these elements not only lead to innovation in healthcare but creative outputs such as art installations / interactive media.
