(Air)justSingapore Design Week 2025 - EMERGE, FIND Design Fair Asia
(Air)just investigates how air can be used to shape, hold, and reconfigure the position of light. Instead of relying on rigid joints or mechanical hardware, the work uses the outward force of an inflated bladder to wedge itself into a series of modular moulds that act as the stand.
As air is introduced or released, the tension within the system shifts, allowing the light tube to rotate, slide, or gently reposition itself.
The result is a lighting object that can be tuned rather than simply turned on and directed. The direction and position of light are determined by the interaction between the user, air pressure and the physical constraints of the surrounding components. This enables a flexible and reconfigurable setup that does not rely on fixed hardware, with the tension happening between soft bodies and solid boundaries.

This work continues the designer’s ongoing investigation into pneumatic interfaces and soft architectures. It extends a line of inquiry into how structure might arise not from fixtures, fasteners, or predefined frames, but from the interplay between internal pressure and external constraint. (Air)just explores how soft systems can support adaptive functions by treating inflation not simply as expansion, but as a structural condition. Rather than enforcing control through rigid hardware, the work shows how interaction can be shaped through the negotiated balance between air, material resistance, and spatial configuration.
